Isn’t that a violation of intellectual rights? Potential buyers of a book can go to the library and read it instead of buying a hard copy one. Is that allowed? Or do they make certain agreements with publishing houses?

i would like to do illustrations for kids books or magazines or maybe write and publish kids books or something. but i have no idea where to start. any one have any tips?
